Time to get a bit #Casperish, I, Aleese Real, had no idea I was an Alternative Black Woman until Esha Belle told me in 2019. For those of you who don’t know what alternative is. Being an Alternative Black person basically means employing or following non-traditional and non-conventional ideas.
Honestly, I was still in a bit of denial until I found my community at AfroPunk Brooklyn. I felt a level of comfort and confidence that I never realized I was missing. When I came back to work I recognized my anomalous assets could serve me well in my work environment.
An Anomalous Asset, as FTBW defines, is any personal preference that is considered outside of the cultural/stereotypical norm that enables you to better maneuver in predominantly white professional circles, i.e. Corporate America.
