Let’s talk about privilege. Privilege is a right, immunity, or benefit enjoyed by a particular person or a restricted group of people beyond the advantages of most. There are many different privileges associated with every type of demographic from gender, age, economic status and race. Many of you have heard or are familiar with the term “White Privilege”. The authority and author of the book White Fragility, says “White privilege is the automatic, taken-for-granted advantage bestowed upon white people as a result of living in a society based on the premise of white as the human ideal, and that from its founding established white advantage as a matter of law and today as a matter of policy and practice. It doesn't matter if you agree with it, if you want it, if you even are aware of it — it's 24/7/365.” The prevalence of white privilege exists in many different realms of our everyday lives. But today, we want to talk about a topic that may not be recognized as a privilege, and that is the ability to have emotions. Specifically we’re addressing the privilege of anger. Who has it, what it looks like and how it impacts us as FTBW.
