In 2021, we are still acknowledging Black Women firsts from the private sector to politics. A few high profile examples include Sheila Johnson, the first black woman billionaire on a Forbes list in 2020 and Kamala Harris as the first Black and Asian woman VP. In Corporate America, being a black woman can leave you as one of few or even the only one in some cases. As a result, we feel the pressure of being the first or pressure to become the first. What does that mean? It refers to the additional responsibilities and considerations we may experience to excel or surpass those before us. Today, we’re talking about the weight of the first as a black woman in corporate america.
