Are you PTO Rich? Do you have hours upon hours of paid time off just accruing as if it were gaining interest? We talk about the importance of taking your PTO and will continue to push that point. Taking time away from work is the TLC we all need at some point, especially to avoid burnout. Psychology Today defines burnout as a state of emotional, mental, and often physical exhaustion brought on by prolonged or repeated stress. Though it’s most often caused by problems at work, it can also appear in other areas of life, such as parenting, caretaking, or romantic relationships. The term “burnout” was coined in the 1970s by the American psychologist Herbert Freudenberger. He used it to describe the consequences of severe stress and high ideals in “helping” professions aka nurses, doctors, etc. So today, we’re going to share signs of when to know burnout is on the horizon and it’s time to take a break.
