Description

Isaiah 41:10

“10 Fear not, for I [am] with you; Be not dismayed, for I [am] your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

We are told not to fear or not to be afraid more than we are given any other command in the Word of God. This is not an arbitrary instruction meant to soothe our apprehensions. It is a real and valid command that God expects us to follow because He himself is our God. He is the creator of all life and He assures us that He is ours. Further, the original Hebrew word for “dismayed” as it is translated here is a word that means “to look away.” Thus, we are to face God and not look away from Him. If we do not look away then we are unable to look at, evaluate, and react to the circumstances that may present themselves as contradictions to the Word of God. The instructions in this verse can be illustrated in a case study of what not to do when we examine the story of Peter walking out on the water to meet Jesus in Matthew 13. Like Peter, we may back God into a corner where He did not intend to go, but nevertheless will show us that He is who He says He is and that if a man will but obey the word of God, then that man can live by the Word of God.
