Love
1 Corinthians 13 delineates all the attributes of love. Just prior to that, we are told that there are spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12) but that “Love” is the more excellent way. Paul wrote to us here stating that as members of the body of Christ, we can experience at least 9 of the manifestations of the Holy Spirit and that we are to desire the best gift. Then, he says, he will show us “a more excellent way.” Immediately following, Paul, by inspiration of the Holy Spirit launches into an expose and what it looks like to manifest the Holy Spirit without love. To begin with, if you are saved, you have the Spirit of Love according to 2 Timothy chapter 1 verse 7. This fact is essentially why you can manifest the gift of the Holy Spirit. However, when we as Christians manifest the Holy Spirit from a place of self-seeking, instead of love, we become a sounding brass or tinkling symbol. The scripture says that doing this will profit the other person, but it won’t profit us and that we will be nothing. This is profound to think about. Have you been giving and not seeing a return? Have you sacrificed and people still aren’t listening to you? The answer might be because you are manifesting actions of the Holy one from the wrong heart. God wants us to serve Him and to bless others out of the Spirit of Love that He gave us. In this week’s session, I work with a horse who knows all the right things to do but has the wrong attitude. Watch and see how he transforms form a resistant worker to a willing (and loving) partner.
