What can we learn from Jaredites? As Andrew puts it, it's almost a mini Book of Mormon in that the people follow a similar path in their journey, civilization, faith, and final destruction.
Moroni abridges the 24 plates that were found hundreds of years earlier by the people of Limhi in the days of Kind Mosiah. Moroni does not include all of the writings due to a lack of room on the gold plates. He does not include the history of the creation of the world and the days of Adam down unto the Tower of Babel. Those records are also had among the Jews as Moroni stated.
The brother of Jared, his family, and some friends language is spared at the Tower of Babel. The Lord commands them to journey into the wilderness and travel to the promised land. They take provisions, cross a smaller sea and then prepare to cross the great sea. Before doing so, they become somewhat idle and after 4 years of not calling upon the Lord, He chastises the brother of Jared. He repents and builds 8 barges after the instructions of The Lord.
They are faced with 3 problems once they are built. No air, no light, and no way to steer. The brother of Jared discusses this with The Lord in which he receives answers for 2 of the 3 but is required to work out the problem for having no light. The brother of Jared figures out a way to have light using stones.
Because of his exceeding faith, he sees the finger of The Lord and much more. He has a miraculous vision in which he sees all things from the beginning to the end. Never did anyone have the faith that the brother of Jared did.
Finally, we discuss the name of the brother of Jared and share a story on how his name was revealed. Was his name in The Book of Mormon all along? Let's find out.
