We now begin the book of Helaman! More war and intrigue... We see the “pride cycle” playing out as the Nephites go from righteousness and prosperity, to pride and wickedness, to destruction and suffering, to humility and repentance. Through this we see parallels to our time, and learn the dangers of pridefulness and the importance of remaining humble and striving to stay close to the Lord.
Tens of thousands are baptized in “the land northward”; we learn how sanctification comes from yielding our hearts to God. The Lamanites become righteous and preach to the wicked Nephites... If we make Jesus Christ our sure foundation, we will not fall when Satan sends forth “his mighty winds” into our lives.
At the conclusion of chapter 6 the Gadianton robbers have taken over the Nephite government.
