“Remember the Lord”
We begin this week in the sixty and ninth year of the reign of the judges..

We see that prophets communicate the will of God to the world... Nephi is rejected in the north and returns to Zarahemla. He prays upon his garden tower, he testifies of Christ just as all of God’s prophets before him have also done, and calls upon the people to repent.

Corrupt judges who belong to the secret band of Gadianton seek to incite the people against Nephi and bend the laws of the land to fit their own corrupt desires.  Nephi prophesies the murder of the chief judge and by inspiration correctly identifies the killer. Some of the people then begin to accept him as a prophet, but we see that faith must be built on more than signs and miracles...

The Lord gives Nephi sealing priesthood power to bind and loose on earth and in heaven.  He commands the people to repent or perish. Nephi then persuades the Lord to replace the war with a famine?!?.. Many people perish—then they repent, and Nephi petitions the Lord for rain! We see that The Lord wants us to remember Him; He gives power to those who seek His will and keep His commandments.

Chapter 12 concludes with Nephi prophesying to the people that the righteous will inherit eternal life, while those who do evil will reap eternal damnation.
