The Book of Mormon opens as Ammaron comes to the young Mormon, at only ten years of age, and instructs him concerning the record of his people. Mormon is told to go when he is twenty-four years of age to the place where the plates were hidden, and record the history of good people that he had observed within his lifetime. Within this time war commences between the Nephites and the Lamanites. The three Nephite disciples are taken away and unspeakable wickedness abounds throughout the land. Mormon was visited by the Lord at the age of fifteen and gained a burning testimony of Christ that gave him the strength to stand righteously in the midst of terrible wickedness all around him.
Mormon grows in strength, wisdom, and stature, and is appointed as the leader of the Nephite armies at a very young age. Mormon leads the armies with honor and courage, even though the Nephite soldiers around him behave in abominable ways. Under his leadership, the Nephites take back all the lands they had lost to the Lamanites, then Mormon negotiates a treaty with the Lamanites.
Mormon cries repentance unto his people in vain; he eventually steps down as the leader of the armies. Mormon preaches faith in Christ and repentance to all people throughout the world. The wars continue, and there is blood and carnage worse than “the tongue can describe”.
Mormon once again leads the Nephite armies. However, it is not enough as the Lamanites come very close to completely destroying the Nephites leaving only 24 survivors.
Join us as we discuss the trials and tribulations of Mormon the prophet and how he was able to live in the world but not be of the world.
