HCP - Ep. 69 - 5 Years Later - The South City Replant
On this episode Host Larry Barker asks co-host Drew Cline questions about what God has done over the 5 years of his pastorate at Temple Baptist Church and the replant as South City Church. Larry asks questions like:
1. What are you Celebrating?
2. What are some of the things you rejoice about the most?
3. What have been some of the greatest challenges?
4. What would you do differentlyif you did it again?
5. What lessons have you learned that are transferable & reproducible?
6. What are some things that surprised you both good & bad?
7. Anything else that you would like those who are listening to know or hear before we close?
Drew shares his heart about how good God has been in these 5 years and offers some insight about what has been learned in this time. In the podcast, Larry asked Drew to post the lessons that could be transferable or reproducible from this time - these are Drew’s answers:
- Make prayer foundational - nothing is more important
- Be mean about your vision (John David Smith) - don’t quickly change what your vision has been, fight for it.
- Be strong (stand for what God has laid on your heart and created you for), don’t back down, lead in love but also in truth (prove it Biblically and lead)
- Don’t be afraid of bullies (with money, power, tradition, change) If God is for us, who can be against us!
- Model your vision and church on first century norms not 21st century fads. (One will produce lasting disciples, the other - church consumers)
- Numeric growth is seductive and deceptive. Work to grow deeper in Christ, let Mission be the metric, not numbers or money or property.
- Challenge status quo - (Do we have to do it this way just because that’s how we’ve always done things?)
- Let your WHY be your catalyst. Build around values over tradition - the WHY is the Great Commission
- Communicate your vision, values and mission over and over and over until people live it out of it being a reality.
- Be tenacious about Spiritual, Organizational, financial and emotional health.
- Lead in relationship over responsibilities, but don’t neglect hard conversations or avoid conflict - learn to walk in love and authenticity with your team.
May God bless the next 5 years and lead His church at South City!
