Welcome to another episode of AMORTE  where we talk about Death Education,
holding a compassionate vision to help us navigate through loss and end of life care.
I am your host Patty Bueno.

Today our special guest is Ram Dass. He experiences music as spiritually and emotionally restorative. His music opens the heart and stirs the soul. As a producer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter, he inspires a unique potency through collaboration and improvisation that creates art greater than the sum of its parts. His constant dedication to render the beauty of human experience, triumph, tragedy, and beyond, has led him to the world stage. He performed at the 2019 GRAMMY Awards, has played at Carnegie Hall, and continues to perform at venues around the world every year.

He shares his grief journey after losing his newborn son Siddhartha Izarra in 2014 and how music helped him along the way. After experiencing such immense pain after his loss, he faced depression and feelings of hopelessness to the point where grocery shopping was unbearable. Through various therapies, he worked with Francis Weller of https://www.francisweller.net/the-wild-edge-of-sorrow-the-sacred-work-of-grief.html who helped him with grief support and grief rituals, community support, and time, he found that he softened to his experience and did not come out cynically, but rather  found profound beauty in both the triumphs and the tragedies of life.

To Become Born is the first of a series of musical reflections on birth, life, death, grief, and joy that was inspired by his experiences. With Ram Dass on nylon guitar and the @aware.musica duo: Bogdan Djukic on violin and percussion with the voice of Matías Da Via, these three musicians invite you to open your heart to this deep and beautiful question and to experience the deep longing to be born again.
