Description

For the entire month of May, in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, Joanna is bringing you a special parent series, where she interviews parents whose children have overcome a variety of mental health challenges. Today’s episode of Success is Subjective is a conversation between Joanna and Missy, a mom of four. While Missy’s oldest three children experienced life in a way that didn’t provoke red flags, her youngest’s mental health was worrisome from an early age. “Diagnostically complicated,” determining the cause of and remedy for his challenges was anything but easy. After trying a multitude of approaches, medications and doctors, Missy’s son found acceptance and help at a residential treatment center that caters to kids with ADHD and executive functioning issues. In closing, Missy leaves parents with three powerful realizations that she wishes she had known at the start of her son’s journey.

Disclaimer: Please note that this special series by parents is the parent perspective sharing mental health and substance abuse crisis with their adolescent or young adult children. These episodes may include content or topics around suicide, overdosing, and other traumatic experiences. Listener discretion is advised!
