Description

Des Moines Public School teacher of Urban Leadership studies, Emily Lang, joins the studio to discuss her role as an educator and its future amidst the unprecedented pandemic mania, along with the added dynamic of the current social climate of widespread civil unrest.

Emily explains the struggles of working with parents while nurturing the minds of the youth to be free thinkers and ask questions.  The difference between being a white ally and a "white savior" is discussed.  The origin of how some of the most progressive and impactful local school curriculum came to be is laid plain, including coursework with emphasis on LGBTQ rights, Black Power units, Women's rights, Migrant Worker's rights, and more.
Authentic vs. processed "flava" makes a play.
