What about the Razzamatazz! If we didn’t know and someone told us Erasmus was a debutant, we’d have accused you of smoking whatever West Coast were in 2006! Time to Restump Podcast the Eagle and Eaglet massacre.
Sure, we have to be measured in our true assessment of Sunday’s Derby win and, in time, we will be. But before common sense and rationally creeps in, lets just kick back and enjoy the Eagle and Eaglet massacre that was. After last week against the Saints, Sunday’s result and spectacle was vital.
Yes, we know West Coast were severely undermanned but that doesn’t take away the excitement of seeing a slick and seemingly bulked up Brandon Walker in an Eagle’s home game hitting chests and destroying nests!
It doesn’t hinder us from admiring the wonderful performance of the debutant Neil Erasmus, nor does it stop us reminding the West Coast Eagles that they should have given Raz a phone call and a pen!
And it does nothing to deter us from basking in the glorious goal kicking of the Disco and cheering him on as he runs a celebratory lap!
Seeing Heath Chapman hit targets and set up attacks with such composure under pressure was like we’d just seen a purple unicorn! Watching Blake Acres throw his ample weight around and play arguably his best game for the club made you give a nod of acknowledgement and to see the great Sonny Walters wind back the clock with ferocious intent and creativity…. It brought a tear of joy to our eye.
All any Freo fan was calling for was a commitment across the board and a four-quarter consistent effort. That is what we finally had delivered.
Yes, we’ll be more analytical in the podcast and we’ll be more measured and constructive but we’re not dismissing the moment for what it was.
Last week against the Saints was probably as flat a feeling as we have had, and as long term Freo fans, we have our share of flat feelings to choose from. But we needed that performance against the Eagles, we needed to see something to lift the spirits and provide us with some hope.
Sure, we all know we need to improve on that performance to go toe to toe with the more credentialed teams, but we’ll worry about the Giants when we get to them on Saturday. For now, we’re simply enjoying this moment in time. Click play and jump in ears deep as we spend an hour reminiscing and critiquing.
