Regular exercise is key pillar of healthy longevity. But which activities really make a difference – running, walking, a gym class, yoga, weightlifting? Does it have to involve breaking into a sweat, or ten thousand steps, to do any good? Some health practitioners have taken to advocating daily movement over traditional exercise. Stefan Zavalin is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and the owner of Love to Move, a company that advises employers on workplace design and ways to promote physical and emotional wellness. In this LLAMA podcast interview, with Peter Bowes, Stefan explains the benefits of a movement mindset and why focusing of vigorous exercise is not always helpful. He says movement is at the core of everything we do, day and night, and should play a bigger role in our lives. He discusses the benefits of periodic standing over sitting; his commitment to multiple daily walks and a fun approach to keeping the body moving.
