Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!
Thank you so much for joining me again!
Happy Tuesday!
This week's theme for the podcast is: Mentally Healthy During the Holidays
This week I am going to be chatting about some specific topics that can help you feel more mentally healthy during this holiday season.
The holiday season is the time where people will feel more alone, depressed & anxious than normal with the overwhelming amount of events, family functions & presumed obligations. I'm here to share some suggestions on how to navigate enjoying the season, budgeting, setting boundaries, ect.
Here are some notes from today's episode:
- I know from personal experience how mentally challenging it can be to deal with purchasing gifts & participating in activities during the holiday season if you feel like your finances are tight.
- It’s important to remember that you should be the only person that is putting any financial pressure on yourself in regards to anything. If anyone else is doing this & you are feeling forced to spend a ton of money on others or go all out on activities & such, you need to re-think that relationship.
- There is absolutely no reason for you to over extend yourself financially because it may seem fine in the moment, but you will regret it in the long term.
- You don’t want the mental stress that having to pay off heavy loaded credit cards & or loans would bring you, if you went that route.
- And let me reiterate that if someone is pressuring you to spend more than you believe you can or is acting like they would be disappointed with a more affordable gift, you may need to rethink that relationship.
- Today I want to share with you some ideas on how to lower the mental stress that comes with financial pressure during the holidays.
- Idea 1: Swap Gifts for Get Togethers. If spending gives you anxiety, find a way to not do gifts, but a get together or an experience instead.
- Idea 2: Set a Spending Limit. If you want to buy gifts, but are concerned with overspending, set a limit for yourself.
- Idea 3: Go the DIY Route. It might be even better if you make an agreement with your friends & fam for everyone to do this so it’s an experience for everyone.
- Idea 4: Set Priorities. Make sure you set your priorities for what you want to spend on for the season. Make sure you come up with an idea of how much the gifts will be, any activities & other events so that you can stay within your budget.
- Idea 5: Remember the Reason for the Season. Gifts aren’t necessary.
Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!
