This week's theme for the podcast is: Top 10 Mental Health Tips
This week we are going to speak about my favorite tips for overcoming regular, everyday struggles we all deal with at some point that is related to our mental health.
Join me in going over my favorite top 10 tips for getting through some of the biggest life struggles.
Here are some notes from today's episode:
- Today I am going to give you some tips on how to get through anxiety attacks. It doesn’t matter what level of attack you go through, you can use these tips.
- Number 1, Take A Time-Out. This is especially important if your anxiety is being caused by a social situation. Give yourself even just a 5 minute break to talk yourself down & become rational enough to deal with your current situation. Tell yourself that you have recovered from it before & this time is no different.
- Number 2, Take Deep Breaths. During your time-out, conduct some breathing exercises. Make sure these are deep & slow breaths that will assist in calming you down.
- Number 3, Manage Your Triggers. If you’re able, figure out what triggered your anxiety & try to separate yourself from it. Sometimes just removing yourself from the problem will help resolve your anxiety quicker.
- Number 4, Exercise for an Endorphin Release. Even light exercise can help release endorphins, which helps to change your mood & relax your body.
- Number 5, Practice Grounding. This is an exercise that helps your mind come back to what is real & not made up in your mind. Identify 5 things you can see, 4 things you can feel, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell & 1 thing you can taste.
- Number 6, Do Something You Enjoy. I know that this isn’t always an option, but if it is, do it. Many things are possible these days with the technology we hold in our phones. So if it’s reading a book, watching a show, exercising, drawing/coloring, or anything else you can come up with, try to do it to take your mind off of what is bringing in the anxiety.
- Number 7, Remember that Your Mind Lies to You. Sometimes it’s all so overwhelming, but just try to remember that your mind could be playing tricks on you & trying to convince you of something that isn’t true & that could hurt you more than you think.
- Number 8, Speak to a Counselor or Someone Else You Trust.
- Number 9, Relax Your Body. Notice if your muscles are getting tense & if so, take the time to loosen up, stretch & relax all the tension you have built up from experiencing the anxiety.
- Number 10, Speak Positive Affirmations to Yourself.
