This week's theme for the podcast is: Top 5 Most Unpleasant Emotions
This week I am going to be chatting about what I feel are the top 5 most unpleasant emotions that we all experience at one time or another.
The emotions I chat about today are all ones we have experienced in our lives, but may have struggled to overcome on our own. I want to share with you a few steps/ideas each day on how to overcome the burden these emotions bring & what to do moving forward.
Here are some notes from today's episode:
- Let’s all just start by agreeing that anxiety sucks. It’s something that millions of people struggle with & many people feel stuck in & don’t think there is anything they could do to overcome it.
- And let me mention that a little bit of anxiety is fine, but it’s when it is happening constantly & getting in the way of your everyday life.
- And I know that some have found it necessary to take medication daily to cope with their anxiety, which is fine if it works for them, but I am here to share with you some ways to overcome anxiety that do not involve medication because that has always been my goal & desire.
- But before we get to those steps, let’s chat about anxiety causes.
- Anxiety can be established from so many events & experiences. From family experiences, work stress, emotional shock after a trauma or distressing event, loss of a loved one or a sexual/physical/emotional trauma.
- And something to note is that maybe the list I just gave sounded extreme, but even the piling up of multiple minor stressors can contribute to major anxiety. And if anxiety isn’t treated & worked on, it can cause worse issues, like panic disorder, depression, high blood pressure & irrational anger.
- Today I’m going to give you 5 steps on how to overcome anxiety.
- Step 1: Start Setting Boundaries & Saying ‘No’ (define what your limits should be, communicate those needs, don’t feel the need to overexplain yourself & know why it’s important & enforce those limits)
- Step 2: Live in the Moment
- Step 3: Face the Fears Head On - Get to Know Them & the Worse-Case Scenario
- Step 4: Find Ways to Rest & Relax - Find Calm Moments
- Step 5: Talk It Out with Someone You Trust
