Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!
Thank you so much for joining me again!
This week's theme for the podcast is: Be Your Own Mentor
This week I want to talk to share with you how you can be your own mentor!
Mentoring yourself is easier than it sounds. By taking certain steps to understand yourself better, improve on what you feel is lacking & committing to learning & encouraging yourself more, you will be on your way to bettering yourself & igniting personal growth.
Here are some notes from today's episode:
- I always loved school growing up. I would be excited to go to school most days because I do enjoy learning. Even in college, I really enjoyed learning new things & getting into interesting conversations that would teach me something, even if it was just about real life & not academics.
- But I did struggle a lot in school because my home life was not the best. I also let myself become so distracted with most things around me that I got behind on homework & struggled to ask for help. I have terrible memories of crying in my room because I just didn’t understand the math equations I was supposed to do. I just didn’t get it.
- But there were for sure other things I was really good at, like writing & public speaking & theater. These were just things that came easier to me.
- But even as an adult, I have such a thirst to learn. I enjoy learning a lot about the hobbies I have & about what other people are interested in, because the decisions & thoughts other people have interest me so much. It’s the reason I went to school to be a psychologist, I love learning how people work.
- And to mentor yourself in the best way, you need to commit to becoming a lifelong learner. Making the decision to consistently be learning, in all different ways, will really help you have a better understanding of so many things, but also be able to adapt easier & quicker, because you may have enough base knowledge of so many things that you are able to pick up the details even easier.
- Being open to learning on the regular will also expose you to new things you may never have discovered. Which is fun because new experiences can bring a lot of enjoyment & discovery.
- In addition, you are generally more open to different ideals, ways of life & people because having a heart to learn, which can also lead to a heart to understand things differently than you.
- So let’s chat about some tips on how to become a lifelong learner:
- 1. Try new things on a regular basis.
- 2. Don’t be afraid to ask more questions.
- 3. Learn to embrace change.
- 4. Know it’s never too late to try something.
