Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!
Thank you so much for joining me again!
Happy Friday!
This week's theme for the podcast is: Imposter Syndrome
This week we are going to speak about imposter syndrome & how suffering from that can affect your day to day life & your overall mindset.
Join me in learning more about imposter syndrome & how to pull away from the vicious cycle it creates!
Here are some notes from today's episode:
- I thought it would be helpful to end the week with some helpful tips on how to fight back against the negative thoughts that we have from time to time, or if you’re like me, more often than desired.
- However, it’s important to realize that we can’t really prevent negative thoughts from creeping up on us, but we can find ways to fight back against those thoughts. Which will prevent us from having our whole mood & day hijacked by negative thoughts.
- Start by identifying your negative feelings, because taking the time to be more in touch with how you’re feeling & why will help to overcome those feelings & with prevention in the future. Also try to identify any triggers you may have.
- Next, learn how to let things go. It’s the idea of choosing to move forward & pass on dwelling on any negative thoughts. The CEO of Werk, Ilana Zivkovich, came up with a great acronym to use when wanting to let things go.
- The acronym is POWER, which stands for Pause, Observe, Widen, Elect & Respond. The basic overview is that when you have a negative thought, first you need to pause & stop the stream of thoughts going on, then observe what you are feeling physically, emotionally & mentally about your current experience, next is to widen your perspective of the situation & really think what could have contributed to those negative thoughts, & lastly elect & respond, which is to choose how you would like to respond to the experience & situation.
- It's also helpful to use positive affirmations & sef-talk to change your mindset.
- Make sure that you aren’t shifting any blame onto anyone else when you need to be responsible for what may have caused the negative mindset.
- Something else that will only make negative thoughts worse & stick around longer is dwelling on things. Nothing good comes from dwelling on negative experiences & no resolutions usually come during those moments, so it’s better to not get sucked into doing that ever. I know hindsight is 20/20, but if you’re going to rehash it, do it only once for the sake of growing & learning what to do or not do next time & move right along.
- One of my favorite ways to get away from negative thoughts is to just do something else. Distract yourself with a fun activity or hobby you enjoy & get your mind off of it. This time away could also give you perspective on the situation to better know how to move forward.
- Lastly, make a list of all the things within the situation, experience or just your general life that you do have control over. This likely will be having control over your attitude, how you handle the thoughts or situation, how you resolve the problem (if there is one) & how you choose to let it affect you going forward.
