Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!
Thank you so much for joining me again!
This week's theme for the podcast is: Be Your Own Mentor
This week I want to talk to share with you how you can be your own mentor!
Mentoring yourself is easier than it sounds. By taking certain steps to understand yourself better, improve on what you feel is lacking & committing to learning & encouraging yourself more, you will be on your way to bettering yourself & igniting personal growth.
Here are some notes from today's episode:
- I spent a majority of my life pretending to be an extrovert because it was the best way to get to know people & make friends, but pretending to be something I wasn’t became crazily overwhelming & led to some burnout from interacting with people.
- But as time has gone on, I have become a little better at networking with people, but to be honest with you, I haven’t been as adamant at it until I started chatting with people on clubhouse. And if you aren’t aware of what Clubhouse is, it’s an audio-only app that allows you to join thousands of different rooms, depending on interest, and listen and/or speak with others about those interests. And I have made connections & friends on this app. Which is shocking for me, because I was never very good at manifesting.
- But I believe making an effort to network & get to know people is so beneficial because you can learn new things. And learning turns into growth for yourself, so it’s a win-win situation. Plus, it’s fun to have more people to chat with & continue to build community with.
- Even when networking with peers & others that work & live life in the same way as you do, it’s important to reach to the edge of the sphere, too, because you can still learn & build community with people that aren’t the exact same as you. Diversify your connections, too.
- Making the decision to network with peers, whether you are an introvert or extrovert, is important because of the main thing I have mentioned a bunch of times already: community. If you’re going to mentor yourself, you need to have a community to go back to for learning opportunities & to get feedback on things you’re investing your time in & to spark your creativity by speaking with others & getting inspired by what they are involved in.
- So let’s chat about some ways you can start networking with peers & become good at it:
- 1. Start with people you know. (Get referrals for people you should connect with from people you already know & spend more time getting to know the people you already know.
- 2. Truly be yourself. (Don’t pretend to be someone else or know things you don’t know. Be authentic.)
- 3. Listen to understand, not to reply.
- 4. Get to know others outside of your own interests & work. Diversify!
- 5. Explore social media as a means to network.
Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!
