Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!
Thank you so much for joining me again!
Happy Thursday!
This week's theme for the podcast is: Social Anxiety
Social Anxiety affects people all over the world in different ways & to different degrees, but the core thought that so many people are affected by social interactions still brings a sense of unity when figuring out how to go about overcoming its symptoms.
I hope this week's episodes are helpful on how to overcome social anxiety, challenge it on the regular & understand more about the disorder, in general.
Here are some notes from today's episode:
- I want to start with the fact that recovery is not quick & easy. Slow & steady wins the race, as disappointing as that may sound. There will definitely be some quick fixes you can do in the moment to calm you & recover momentarily, but to be better for the long run, it will take ongoing work & determination to recover slowly so that it sticks.
- I talk a lot about self-awareness & I am going to mention here, too. You need to get to know yourself better, understand why you are experiencing the anxiety you are, take the time to evaluate your decisions & actions to bring you closer to solutions that will work better for your healing process.
- Something else to keep in mind is to not give up, even in times where your anxiety may seem more overwhelming than normal. You want to establish some self-discipline & not give up every time things get hard. Don’t quit in the midst of it.
- Also make the conscious effort to become better each day. This is one of the main things I talk about all the time, because all the content I create is all based on creating things that will help & contribute to anyone & everyone becoming their best selves. And that takes daily work. You have to want that & take action on those desires.
- Nothing will change when you stay in your comfort zone.
- In addition to that, make sure you are just being your authentic self. Practicing authenticity & transparency is the best thing you can do for yourself in general, but also to overcome social anxiety. The more accepting you are of yourself, the better it will be to heal from your anxious tendencies.
- I always throw in journaling as a way to process thoughts, feelings & emotions. It’s an appropriate outlet & a way to understand yourself more & feel kind of relieved & not drowning in everything in your mind.
- For me, panic attacks are an issue that comes with my social anxiety. And a lot of times I will just ride out that experience because I find a way to hide, but I have been working on coming up with calming techniques that work for me in the moment, to alleviate that pressure & the effects of the attack on me. Things like taking a moment to be alone & breathe in some fresh air, talk to someone you trust, creating a distraction to have something else to think about & meditation.
- Also, there is always the option of getting professional help. And this is never a bad option. And it’s one that is always available.
- Lastly, remember that the way people treat you is a reflection on them, not you. I say this all the time & it’s true every single time. And it’s always a great reminder to have.
