This week's theme for the podcast is: How To Do It
This week I want to talk about various ways you can better your life by going over a few How To’s for personal development.
I hope these topics inspire you to keep pushing for your best self, to put yourself first & to understand that we are all a work in progress & you don't always have to have it together.
Here are some notes from today's episode:
- Practicing appreciation is all about leaning into gratitude.
- Taking time to be more appreciative in your life on the regular will help you get through anything & everything.
- The power of appreciation will help ground you in tough & confusing times, but also boost happiness & positivity. It will also contribute to more kindness & compassion for others & yourself.
- And appreciation doesn’t have to be a huge deal or something extravagant at all, it can be something really small, really insignificant to someone else or even something that is temporary.
- Let’s break down appreciation a little more. Appreciation is the ability to understand the importance of something & really show gratitude for it. Whether that is an experience, a person or something physical.
- And appreciation needs to be focused on more, as opposed to always believing that the future will hold the key to our happiness. That is not always going to be the case, but even if it is, we should not be discounting what is happening right now. Even if your life feels boring, feels dull, feels incomplete, feels stagnant, feels crazy & overwhelming, feels like it’s moving too fast, or feels like there is something missing. You have the ability to have less regrets by really caring for what’s happening now & not taking anything for granted or like it’s always going to be there.
- Taking the time to focus on what we have, rather than what we want will really help to position our mindset to not always want the newest things & equating that with happiness. And I know I am talking a lot about things, but we must also think about this in regards to people. We need to not take those in our lives for granted. You cannot always count on someone to be there for you, it’s just not realistic or possible. We are all on our own journeys & moving through seasons of life that is a mystery to us.
- Here are some ideas on how to show someone in your life appreciation: write them a letter sharing how much you love & care for them & want them in your life, send them a treat or flowers, take the time to see if there is anything you can do for them, make sacrifices to be there for them when it’s needed, & listen to understand not to judge or be opinionated.
- Here are also some ways to show appreciation, in general: appreciate the small things, create a daily gratitude list, work on being less picky, volunteer, work on finding the silver lining in the things you don’t enjoy in life, tell others on the regular what they mean to you, even just how grateful you are they opened the door for you.
- One of the most important things I want to mention is to make sure you appreciate what you have now before you are forced to appreciate what you had.
