This week's theme for the podcast is: Minimalism & the Mind
This week we are going to speak about how minimalism can positively affect your mindset & make it easier to enjoy your life & the truly important parts.
Join me in learning more about minimalism & how it relates to your daily mindset.
Here are some notes from today's episode:
- I wanted to talk about mental peace because part of the amazing thing about minimalism is that with less comes more, and more peace is part of that.
- Decluttering your life of physical things will do the same for your mind. Having less will also help with limiting overstimulation because there is less to be distracted by.
- Introducing minimalism into your life can really assist in increasing peace of mind because the less things you have in your life will reduce worry & increase organization, which contributes to peace of mind.
- But in addition to becoming more minimalist, there are other ways I want to share with you that will help increase general peace of mind for your life.
- Lower your expectations of yourself & others.
- Having high expectations for others & yourself will only set you up for disappointment. Try to be more flexible & go with the flow, which will bring you more peace, as you won’t be so focused on whether people are living up to your desired potential or not. And just adjust expectations for yourself to be more reasonable.
- Spend time doing self-discovery.
- Spend the time you would be using for distractions & dealing with unnecessary possessions instead on getting to know yourself better & understanding who you are & what you want to work towards. This is especially important if you have been avoiding dealing with some tough emotional things because all the distractions in your life. But with those gone, you have time to hone in & work through your recovery.
- Cut back on the socials.
- Social media is time consuming & yet another distraction. It also brings up feelings of comparison, worry, depression, anxiety, jealousy, & more. And I’m not saying you shouldn’t use it at all, but have some personal limitations.
- Don’t live in the past or worry about the future.
- I know this is easier said than done. Worrying about the future will only cause anxiety & stress due to the unchanging uncertainty of it. Reliving your past will just create a dark cloud over your life indefinitely.
- Honesty is the best policy.
- Be honest with yourself about everything & honest with others as much as you can. That way you aren’t hiding any true feelings or stepping over any of your own personal boundaries.
- Let go of control & the need for certainty.
