This week's theme for the podcast is: Stop Doing These Things
This week I am going to be chatting about some behaviors & mindsets I encourage you to stop indulging in & practicing.
I know it can be super easy to get caught up in certain behaviors that are normal to us & that we are in the habit of doing often, but it’s important to realize what behaviors & mindsets that we are engaged in that aren't really helping us & causing us more harm or setbacks.
Here are some notes from today's episode:
- Today’s topic is a big one, I believe. Because fear dominates so many of our lives & sometimes isn’t ever realized.
- It’s so easy to misinterpret what worry, anxiety & procrastination actually are. These are all forms of fear & you need to know that.
- And before I dive into more details on fear & how to overcome it, let me provide you with a Bible verse that could be comforting when dealing with fear. It’s from the book of Psalms, chapter 27, verse 1: “The Lord is my light & my salvation - so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?”
- So let’s briefly chat about why we have fear. The primary reason for fear is to assist in survival. And survival can be something dating back to centuries ago, using fear to literally keep you alive all the way to now, with fear assisting in you keeping relationships together, keeping your job, not getting hurt by someone else or coming up with made-up thoughts to comfort you with your fear of the future & general uncertainties.
- Now most of these things sound fine, because fear can stem from actual real life threats, but it can also come from imagined & unrealistic things seen as threats.
- And the latter is the thing I want to focus on today. Because there are so many instances that we allow fear to prevent us from engaging in or going after what we want & need.
- Now let me make mention that having fear is natural & normal & not something I think we should get rid of all together. It’s just when it gets in our way & is irrational (which we may not know at the time, unfortunately).
- You could be keeping yourself in your own self-made prison made of fear because you allow it to keep you from things.
- And the best to start the process of why these fears come up & how they hold you captive is to take the time to be introspective & figure out where these stem from. What is the origin of your fears?
- Let me give you 5 steps to overcoming fear:
- Step 1: Imagine the Worst Case Scenario
- Step 2: Talk About It With Someone
- Step 3: Boost Up the Times You Are Courageous
- Step 4: Learn More About the Thing You Fear to Ease Your Fears
- Step 5: Visualize Success
