Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!
Thank you so much for joining me again!
This week's theme for the podcast is: Practical Self Care Tips
This week I want to talk to share with you some super practical self-care tips.
Sometimes it's just best to get back to some basic tips to improve your life. We can talk about the nitty-gritty & in-depth topics all day long, but sometimes looking at things from a high level can make it a little easier to implement into your life.
Here are some notes from today's episode:
- I’m a perfectionist, so trying new things isn’t necessarily my cup of tea because I want to be good at things right from the jump. So when I do try something new, it’s kind of a big deal to me. But I have learned over the years that the more I put myself out there & try new things, the easier it is to let go of some of that perfectionist personality & desire to be in control of how everything turns out.
- And it’s proven that spending time engaging in hobbies & activities you enjoy is great for improving mental health & wellness, as well as helping to prevent stress & aid in depression. But it’s the new hobbies & activities that will stretch & challenge who you are as a person, which is important.
- Obviously, it’s going to be the easiest to try things you are semi-familiar with or things that are related to what you already do, but what would really help you grow & change will be stepping out of your comfort zone & experiencing things that are totally a left turn.
- The best thing about hobbies is that there are so many options & can be relaxing, uplifting, physical, so many different versions.
- And why you choose a hobby is dependent on you & your needs. Maybe you want to do something that will help you be more social or maybe it’s a way for you to learn something new to challenge yourself or to provide a distraction from other things in your life. Either way, the best way to go into something new is to have an attitude of excitement & gratitude. Excitement because it could be something fun & enjoyable, but also gratitude because the ability to be grateful for anything & everything we are able to be involved with is super important.
- So let’s chat about what to do when you are looking to start a new hobby:
- 1. Think about what you used to enjoy in the past & decide if you should try that again.
- 2. Turn something you enjoy into a hobby. (Like to eat? Learn to cook. Like to watch sports? Play a sport.)
- 3. Try someone else’s hobby out.
- 4. Find something that distracts you or calms you. (Knitting, yoga, running, puzzles)
- 5. Find a list online & try something new & different.
