Compassion, Isaiah 53
Scott Howard - Senior Pastor

-

I keep hearing a word rise up in my heart…COMPASSION. There is so much happening in our
culture and the world right now that tends to get us caught up in so many emotions and reactions.

But I’ve noticed that unless we stay close to His heart we can become bitter, cynical, and angry. Certainly, there is plenty to be righteously indignant about… I’m not discounting that but we must never lose our connection with God's heart for the hurting.

“But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they
fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.” - Matthew‬ ‭9:36‬ ‭KJV

Been a lot of folks that felt faint over the past year and a half‬‬

Jesus was moved with compassion. Compassion… feel sympathy, to pity: - have (be moved
with) compassion…Tender Mercies.

We need to be seeking ministry opportunities more than arguments…becoming “courage
companions” - Isaiah 53…

“Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?”

God is continually inviting us to engage with Him… Asking us…Will you engage with me?
God is never without a perfect plan for our lives…we need to listen for His voice…

God wants to be part of everything that we do. He wants to use us... He chooses to work with
and through us, which means that we have to be willing to do our part.

We are all different. God made us different on purpose, so it’s really foolish to spend
your life trying to be like somebody else. There are places and spaces... inheritances and
opportunities uniquely for you to receive, occupy, and steward! We need to believe the
report.

It's not, Thus saith the scholars, or Thus saith the politicians, or Thus saith the
media, but... Thus says the Lord.

“For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of the dry ground.
He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should
desire Him.  3  He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with
grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem
Him. 4  Surely He has borne (to lift) our griefs And carried our sorrows, Yet we esteemed
Him stricken, Smitten by God and afflicted. 5  But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His
stripes, we are healed. 6  All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, everyone, to
his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. 7  He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened.
