Episode 77: How to Plan for a Resource Room

This is part 3 of a 3 part series on how to run a resource room.
Today is all about how to make plans for working with students as a resource teacher.  As a resource teacher for 27 years, I have changed and modified the way I've done this more times than I can count but the method I currently use works very well and allows 


Inclusion:

• Collaborate with general education teacher
• Choose your framework
• Discuss standards and lessons to be taught

Resource Room for LD:

• Base your plans on the amount of time you have with students
• Structure your activities based on the amount of time students are pulled
• Use a mixture of:
  • Spiral review
  • Standards instruction
  • Independent instruction on missing skills
  • IEP goals

Resource Room for ID, Autism, DD, etc.

• Use task box system
  • Example: 20 boxes per week, 4 per day
• Switch out activities often
• Students work for a reward or free time
• IEP goal boxes
