Description

"By the unity of the Spirit we are to understand, not only a spiritual unity, but also a unity of sentiments, desires, and affections, such as is worthy of and springs from the Spirit of God.  By the bond of peace we are to understand a peace or union, where the interests of all parties are concentrated, cemented, and sealed; the Spirit of God being the seal upon this knot."  (Clarke)
There is no greater joy professed in the church of Jesus Christ than this… that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ… what a witness to the world we profess when we live together in the unity of the bond of peace.

¶ Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, long-suffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Colossians 3

We must be looking out for everyone; the weak, the young, the fearful and timid, as well as the unruly, untoward and lazy. Not all parts of the body are honorable, even presentable, but they are part of the body. We must endeavor to keep the unity of the spirit of the bond of peace, pursuing the good of all.
