The ones in my den, positioned ever so kindly on either side of my credenza, seem to be on my team. They make me look a little slimmer, a little taller—like I have my life together. These are the mirrors that whisper, “You’re doing just fine, sis. No need to worry. Maybe even have that extra piece of toast.”
But then… there’s the mirror on my second-floor landing. Now, this mirror? This mirror does not care about my feelings. It has no interest in illusions. It tells me the unfiltered, unedited truth about my size, my posture, and exactly how much effort I’ve been (or haven’t been) putting into my fitness agenda. It shows me reality, and let’s just say, truth, and I had a moment the other day.
