This is a special meditation for birth mothers that uses visualization for relaxation, self-care, and spiritual healing. For those unfamiliar with the term: a birth mother is a woman who gave birth to a child who was then adopted.
Note from Jayme: It's Mother's Day tomorrow. I know how difficult this day can be for birth mothers, because I am one. Sixteen years ago, as a teenager, I chose to place my baby for adoption. I've been through a lot of strange Mother's Days since then. In one way, I was the best mother I could be at the time by choosing adoption for my child. On the other hand, I wasn't a mom to anyone. This year, for the first time, I am experiencing Mother's Day as a mom. My daughter was born last Fall and while it's a beautiful thing to have this first official Mother's Day with her, I find myself reflecting on that teenage version of myself who knew her baby was meant to grow up with another family. This meditation is a gift to that teenage version of me.
