“Mary Helen was one of the fossil prints of my childhood.”
I grew up in the 1970’s and had three older sisters: Linda, Brenda, Phyllis and one younger, Elizabeth, which we nicknamed “Libby.” My oldest sister, Linda, had a best friend named Mary Helen Phillips.
Linda and Mary Helen were almost inseparable growing up. Mary Helen lived on the same neighborhood street as us growing up. She and my sister, Linda, were about fifteen years older so they helped Mom take care of Libby and me. According to my Mom, Mary Helen practically fell in Love with me when I was born.
Mary Helen carried me on her hip everywhere she went while my Mom was working at Holston Valley Hospital as a nurse. Mary Helen and Linda would push me on my tricycle, feed and play with me every day when they came home from school.
As an adult, Mary Helen wrote a letter to me, after my Father passed away. I have that letter framed, and hanging on the wall in my office beside of her photo.
A few years later, Mary Helen passed away. She was one of the "fossil prints of my childhood."
Do you cherish memories of someone like Mary Helen from your childhood?
Matthew 18:3-5 NIV
And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.
