Description

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. It seems that now more than ever we are hearing a conversation about mental health happening on a national level. With the COVID-19 pandemic we are being inundated with information that can really put pressure on a person. From the news, to social media, to conversations with friends, it's hard to escape the stress that comes along with it.

But there is still stigma out there surrounding mental health. Some people don't believe it's real, some think they don't have time to get help and some communities believe it shows a lack of strength to admit that a person is struggling.

NAMI, the National Association of Mental Illness, is around to help break that stigma and offer support to those who need it. I caught up with Kerry Graves, the executive director for NAMI Metropolitan Baltimore. We had a great discussion about what kind of stress the current global situation is adding to people as well as the efforts that NAMI is going through to ensure that people can still get the help and support they need.
