Matt Haig is one of my favorite authors. I put him up there with Nick Hornby and Chuck Klosterman. I love the way his mind works and the way he can paint a picture.
I first came across Matt with his 2015 best seller 'Reasons To Stay Alive.' Never before had I read something about mental health and depression that was so open and honest. So many of the feelings that Matt expressed in that non-fiction book echoed things that I had felt during my battles with anxiety and depression. It was incredible to see them on the page in something that was circulating the world.
A couple years later Matt released 'How To Stop Time' and that was the first time I had a chance to speak with him. I realized that his honesty is something that lives in his real life and not only on the page.
I've been lucky enough to speak with Matt a couple more times over the years and this latest conversation comes at the release of his latest novel 'The Midnight Library.' First of all, it's a great book and I suggest it to all of you. But even though it's a fiction novel, it still has a lot of the mental health conversation that needs to be front and center, especially in the world we live in today.
I hope you enjoy this conversation with Matt Haig.
