After surviving a serious illness, Dunstan dedicated himself to the life of a monk, eventually becoming abbot and restoring his abbey to its former glory. As a man of unfailing honesty and spiritual wisdom he became an advisor to the king, even when it caused him to fall out of favor with the crown.
