In this podcast we look at the Great Commission and try to understand who it is given to and what it means. Here is the actual text:
"Then Jesus came to them (the disciples) and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:19 (NIV)
The Great Commission is purported in tradition to be the commissioning or marching orders of the Christian church. But we know that is not correct. This episode discusses what the literature of the New Testament directly states and the context for those statements as we use the techniques of literary criticism to understand this wonderful commission.
