Dr. David Zaas joined the Medical University of South Carolina in June 2020 as the Chief Executive Officer for the Charleston Division and the Chief Clinical Officer for MUSC Health. In addition, he is an Professor at the MUSC School of Medicine with a clinical practice in pulmonary medicine and lung transplantation at MUSC.
Dr. Zaas was the President of Duke Raleigh Hospital from 2014-2020. He previously served as the Chief Medical Officer for the Duke Faculty Practice, the Private Diagnostic Clinic (PDC). He also served as the Vice-Chair for Clinical Practice in the Department of Medicine at Duke University. Dr. Zaas also formerly served as medical director for Lung Transplantation at Duke. His academic interests have involved both translational and clinical research focused on improving outcomes from lung transplantation including the role of infectious complications after transplant.
Dr. Zaas is a graduate of Yale University in 1994. He completed his medical degree at Northwestern University in 1998 and subsequently did his internship and residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He was selected as Assistant Chief of Service of the Osler Medical Service in 2002-2003. He completed his fellowship training at Duke in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and then joined the Duke faculty in 2005. Dr. Zaas also completed his Master’s of Business Administration at Duke in 2008.
