Adrienne Bradley was born and raised in a traditional black family in Troy, Michigan. Her father had a great job as an engineer at GM and she enjoyed all the privileges of a secure, middle class upbringing. When the auto industry tanked in 2008 Adrienne’s father lost his job and couldn’t secure another one. This was a turning point for Adrienne’s family, their financial security and for her father’s mental and physical health. Over the next 4-years Adrienne’s relationship with her father deteriorated until she was eventually kicked out of the house. When Adrienne’s father died in 2012 they were barely on speaking terms. Learn how the pandemic has forced Adrienne to start to work through her grief and guilt over the fractured relationship with her father, how she’s learned that nothing is unfixable and why she feels it’s so important not to sanitize death.
