In November of 1095, Raymond of Saint-Gilles, Count of Toulouse was king of southern France in all but name. Yet, just one year later, he had left that all behind him to seek his destiny on the road to Jerusalem. Today, we explore the origins and possible motivations of the man who would do his best to carve out his very own crusader state.
