Rlene Santos Steffy sits with Palu (master navigator) Larry Raigetal from Lamotrek, Yap, to learn why two traditional canoes the Fanahigiyan and the Quest and their motorized escort yacht were unable to complete their journey to Luta in early June.
They left Guahan on Saturday night June 1 at about 9 p.m. and were expected to arrive at Luta around 10 a.m. Sunday morning.
Palu Raigetal said he expected that sailing up to Luta directly from Guahan would be a challenge as his ancestors cautioned them about the channel between Guahan and Luta.
