Description

This week for Faces & Places we cast our minds back a few weeks to the Ballinamore Family Festival where Órla McNabola spent a day hanging out and soaking up the atmosphere of the event.

Órla spoke to Tommy Moran about the history of the festival and his favourite memories of the week long series of events over the years. She also speaks to committee member Mary McGirl about the success of the festival and the reintroduction of the junior committee which has allowed a whole new generation play their part in the week.

Tom Burns tells Órla about the new redevelopment of the community hall to establish the Island Theatre as a modern facility for the arts in the town, and what's required in terms of support and finances to make the concept become a reality with over half of the required finances already secured.

Charlie Byrne of Rivermania tells us all about the water based fun with the youth of the town enjoying the Shannon Erne Waterway with taster sessions with Kayaking and experiencing being active on the water.

Dawn McKeon tells Órla all about the Ninja Warrior event which drew massive crowds to watch local teams compete against each other to secure bragging rights and a large cash prize. Jason Prior, a member of the winning Aughawillan team, shares his experience of competing in the competition.

Órla talks to Garda Jimmy Stenson about the role of the Gardai in keeping everyone attending the festival safe and sound throughout the week.

Finally she bumps into local lady Shelly O'Donnell who tells her all about her '50 Firsts' project to do 50 new things as she turned 50.
