#357: Overthinking is when you dwell on something or replay a situation over and over in your head. That process typically leads to a distorted view of motives. An example could be, your spouse says something that offended you. You then replay the conversation over and over in your head. This leads to a fabrication of their intent for saying what they said. This in turn generates unwarranted anger and/or resentment towards them and from there it only gets worse.
