The past two weeks have been full of sorrow for our country, our community, our denomination, and our church. It has been heartbreaking to watch the news reports of the shootings in Buffalo and then, this week, in Uvalde, TX.
Also, this week, the Sexual Abuse Task Force of the Southern Baptist Convention released report detailing the findings of a eight month third party investigation. The report outlines findings of institutional cover up and neglect that are heartbreaking and sobering.
I have found myself this week overwhelmed by grief and sorrow for the families that have experienced tragic loss and for the survivors of abuse. This Sunday, we changed directions from our planned sermon series in order to turn to God in lament during this time of sorrow and to address how we move forward with hope.
