No one loves having them, but some of us actively avoid them, and I want to encourage you to stop doing that – it’s bad for your team, your business and you.
Whilst these conversations can be tough, they are an essential part of our leadership toolkit – in fact, the ability to have these conversations effectively is the #1 skill every business owner needs to develop in order to lead their team effectively.
So I have 3 questions to ask yourself today if you find yourself avoiding difficult conversations with someone on your team:
1) Why are you actually avoiding it? Really, what are the real reasons?
2) What is the worst thing that could actually happen? (not the unlikely things you are making up!)
3) Does the reason outweigh the potential benefit of having the conversation?
