Culture is a tricky thing, it’s hard to articulate and even harder to describe.
Often, when working with businesses, I see team cultures that are not in line with what the business owner wants – but they don’t seem to know how to change it, or how it’s been created in the first place.
So today I wanted to share a simple framework from Simon Sinek which is this: Values + Behaviours = Culture.
If you’re not clear on your values, and you’re not actively running your business through the lens of them, then what’s left? Behaviours
If you’re then tolerating, encouraging or putting up with behaviours that aren’t in line with your values, or are at odds with ‘this is how we do things around here’ that’s when your team become in charge of the culture not you.
So get clear on your values, and the behaviours that support them and those that don’t.
Then communicate, set expectations, boundaries and be prepared to uphold and protect them - that's the foundations for how to create the culture you want in your business.
