Intravenous (IV) flow rate is the volume of a solution or drug administered in a given amount of time for an IV preparation.

Units: mL/h and drops/min (gtt/min).

Drop (drip) factor refers to the size of the IV tubing and is stated on the IV administration package. It is calibrated in number of drops/mL.

There are two main types of drips: Macrodrip (10 gtt/mL, 15 gtt/mL and 20 gtt/mL) and Microdrip (60 gtt/mL).
