"When I think of a Managing Director, I see an old man in a grey suit.

I see someone that is removed from the day-to-day experiences of their team.

I don’t see myself.

For a long time, this meant that I felt like an imposter in my role; like at any moment, someone would notice that I wasn’t an old man in a grey suit and kick me out.

I thought this because I wasn’t seeing MDs that looked like me. 

I was 32, a woman and I’d never stepped foot in a grey suit.

I was someone who wanted to be involved in the day-to-day experiences of their team. I wanted to know that I was using my influence to bring happiness to the workplace.

So, for the past 5 years, I’ve been doing exactly that, all the while creating a new image of a Managing Director in my head.

You can’t be what you can’t see.

And now I see me."
