There's a world of contemporary Christian music that's far outside what is regularly played on CCM radio stations. The Faith Debate offered a short series of shows (this is episode #3) which highlight some of the better options (that might, or might not, typically be heard on the radio). Artists highlighted this time include: Jars of Clay, BarlowGirl, TobyMac, Mandisa, Casting Crowns, Out of the Grey, Paige (Lewis), Russ Taff, Point of Grace, and Chris Rice.
