The design of men is a powerful one. Men can fight wars, invent new things, and run major corporations, but also play in the playground with their kids all day. Men have a natural play instinct which is important for the development of them and their children. The problem is without proper development many men get stuck in the playing mentality and never grow up. Maturity is not the lack of play or fun, but knowing when it is appropriate and when it isn't. So we are going to look at some of the main reasons men aren't growing up so we can recognize the problems and work to overcome them.
Lack of Examples
- Some men have never grown up because they never saw what a grown man was supposed to act like
- A lot of guys have grown up in confusing times
- This beat down of masculinity has left a lot of men confused and now many of these men are the dads today
- The other serious problem is the lack of dads and role models of what a man is all about
- Many men are wandering around not knowing where to go as a man
- Many boys didn't have an example so they are trying to figure it out as they go
- For young men who realize this need, they have to put in extra work
Lack of Ingredients
- Many men have not grown up because there has been a lack of ingredients in their life
- A number of men had some things happen when they were young that stunted their emotional growth
- Divorce is a reality many men dealt with in their lives as children
- One of the hardest things for boys to overcome is the addictive nature of porn
- The statistics for boys who have been sexually abused have been increasing over the years
- Bullying is another emotional growth event that many people don't think of
- Traumatic events do affect us when we were kids and we need to make sure they aren't affecting our life today by keeping important ingredients out of our everyday
- Many men have a void of insecurity that they are trying to fill that comes from their childhood
Lack of Challenge
- A lot of men were hamstrung as they grew up because many things were done for them and they were never challenged
- I don't think parents did this on purpose but they were so focused on the protection that they stunted their child's growth
- Now this doesn't mean parents can teach everything
- Many men today are grown men who grew up with no responsibilities so they didn't learn how to be responsible
- Many of these men were shielded from consequences so they don't have a full understanding of what consequences are or how they work
- We can't hide boys from challenges
